2017 Medical/Dental Mission to Chantal Haiti: Sunday January 22nd to Sunday January 29th, 2017

Our next Medical/Dental Mission to Chantal, Haiti, is scheduled for Sunday January 22th to Sunday January 29th, 2017 . I encourage you to sign up as soon as possible. We need Physicians, Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Nurses, Pharmacists, etc… We also need the support and help of benefactors to help pay for the cost of the mission, such as buying prescription and non-prescription medicines. So your financial support is greatly appreciated. All donations are tax deductible. Travel to Port-au-Prince is on Sunday January 22nd and we’ll spend the night at nun’s Guesthouse. We will travel to Chantal early on Monday morning where we will work with the Nuns (The Immaculate Sisters of Mary Immaculate). At the end of our week, we will return to Port-au-Prince and depart to the United States.. The Nun’s guesthouse charges $50 a night. For this reason, the contribution to participate in the Medical/Dental Mission is $600. $100 will go to the Nun’s Guesthouse in Port-au-prince for the 2 nights that we’ll spend there and the rest to cover the cost of transportation, translation, food, buying prescription medicines, etc… If you plan to come early or stay longer at the end, please consider the extra nights at the guesthouse and include the cost in your donation. I encourage volunteers to sign up early so that we can reserve rooms at the Nun’s Guesthouse. Send your contribution to:

  1. Patti, I need your email address? Contact me at sarahjohn2857@gmail.com. The application is under the team preparations tab with a link several lines down.

  2. Hello, my email address is melissa_reilly@my.uri.edu. I am a pharmacist. What kind of work would we be doing? Thank you.

  3. Fantastic news! Rotary Club District 7610 has approved a large grant request from 18 participating Rotary Clubs in Northern Virginia to improve our Chantal dispensary through the addition of a room dedicated to pediatrics! It will mirror the room that was added before for labor and delivery.
We’re working to find the necessary equipment: stretchers, lights, fans, otoscopes, and, in the dreams of Sister Mona — an ultrasound machine.
We hope the space will be finished before our next mission! No more dark hallway!!

Melanie, Father Yves, and I made a a quick visit to Chantal in July. Construction for Sister Juna’s classrooms is underway. There is still a need for funding to complete the expansion so she can admit more children. As school begins here at home, Sister Juna hopes we can help her find a sister school partnership.

  4. The January 2016 team is back after another week in our favorite village! Volunteers arrived in spite of the 32 inch blizzard that struck the East Coast of the US creating flight mayhem and had a simply amazing week in spite of the travel anxieties. 45 folks from ten US states, Canada, and Haiti treated 1965 patients! Our three wonderful pharmacists and their stalwart volunteers filled over 3800 prescriptions. In the evenings we relaxed, dancing up a storm to konpa with our friends. Many thanks to everyone for making the mission such a wonderful success!
